Anne-Marie Baiynd: Her Circuitous Route to a Technicial Trader

Anne-Marie took quite a “circuitous” route to reach where she stands today in her career as a technical trader.  Focusing primarily on the stocks that she’s comfortable with, she utilizes the technical indicators to formulate her plays.

She came from an interesting background having a degree in mathematics and a career in recruiting.  Though her first step did not take place in Wall Street, she is now moving full throttle pursuing her passion after her discovery.

Demonstrating her expertise and knowledge as an investor, her financial site Anne Marie Trades has now been inducted into the StockTwits Premium Network, which is a challenging task for many.

Today she shares some of her experiences with the rest of us through our interview.

“So Anne-Marie, you have a B.A. in Mathematics with a concentration in Econometrics and an M.S. in Mathematical Statistics with a concentration in Bio/Behavioral Statistics  They’re not the first majors I think of when it comes to trading.  What led you to this path initially?”

Quite a circuitous route for sure.  Really, I was introduced to trading at a time when I was ready to do something different.  I had been in recruiting for the better part of 14 years, built a couple of businesses from the ground up, and I was getting burnt out.  As luck would have it, I went to a success magazine event, got introduced to technical trading and was hooked.  My financial position at the time allowed me to quickly change gears and have loved it ever since.

“Can you give us more on your career background?  You seem to have had many experiences in the past.  What are some of the experiences you enjoyed?  Perhaps some you did not enjoy?  And lastly, how did you end up in the world of investing?”

Well, I’m a bit of a scientist/teacher/psychologist (when you have a staff and work with hundreds of people day after day, you become one of these to operate at peak levels).  I’m one of those people who try to enjoy everything I’m doing and to find something beneficial inside of the action.  If I can’t, I simply stop doing it.  I really enjoyed my neuroscience research because it blends understanding of the psyche with the biology of the neural system.

“How would you classify yourself as a trader?  We know technical is a big part of your trading, especially Fibonacci.  What else can we know about your trading methodology?”

I am disciplined and systematic.  I also strive to make things as simple as possible.  I am all about filtering the noise, and I use technical analysis for that.  I am a pure technician.

“Your site has now been inducted into the StockTwits Premium Network, which is not an easy task for anyone.  Can you tell us more about your site?  What can we expect out of your premium service?”

The service is not only about delivering great trade setups and up to the minute market information, but making the member a better trader.  The premium service delivers a superior level of personal interaction that most folks are not used to in these types of offerings.  Because of the many years I worked in a people environment, I understand that serving people always ends up making everyone better.  I like doing that.  I took some crazy trader personality test in the past that called me a socially moral trader (whatever that means).  I think it meant I enjoy serving the greater good.

“In your mind, what makes successful investors, successful?  Can you think of any factors that helped your growth in that aspect?”

Dedication, discipline, patience and a commitment to excellence.  If you don’t have those aspects, you will need to learn them.  Otherwise, success will be fleeting, if at all.

“As many of us know, StockTwits is a big part of your involvement in the community.  Why StockTwits?  Who are some traders you respect and exchange conversations with?”

StockTwits is an incredible forum that draws some of the brightest trading minds I have ever seen into one place.  I chose to be involved with StockTwits because of Brian Shannon’s association with it.  His integrity, his openness, and honesty assured me that I was aligning myself with an organization that had purpose.

“Lastly, what do you enjoy doing when you’re not working? Love to hear more about your personal side.”

I love my family; my husband is incredible, and I adore him.  We are Bible believing Christians who are intent on using our money to help others live better lives.  We also love to travel together and are in the process of checking off the list of major cities in the world.  My children give me great joy, and I love watching them grow up.  I know this is kind of apple pie, but that’s who I am.

So how does one become the next Anne-Marie?  It comes down to the fundamentals: dedication, discipline, patience and commitment.   However, we cannot take these factors lightly because it really takes a lot to live up to these terms.  Thanks Anne-Marie for sharing your thoughts and we wish you the best of luck on your endeavors.
